‘Congratulations, and welcome to one of the most incredible experiences you will have on life’s journey!
I am very happy for you and would love to share this precious time with you. I will provide you, your partner and your new baby with the very best care you can have. And will personally be available for you 24 hours a day. I believe it is important to provide a safe model of care that meets your pregnancy and birth wishes, rather than expecting you to fit a model that’s on offer. There are many different approaches to pregnancy care and birthing. We are happy to accommodate them all.
We are a team practice with obstetricians and midwives, meaning you will receive the benefits of all areas of their expertise. Consequently this practice has one of the lowest caesarean section rates you could find. I have been at the Mater Mothers Redlands for 5 years now so there’s a good chance you may know someone I’ve already cared for. Ask about their experience………. It’s the best reference I have. I look forward to seeing you very soon,’
Dr Matt Macbeth.
Once you decide you would like to become pregnant, this visit to Dr Macbeth helps you to optimise your lifestyle to increase fertility and then provide the healthiest environment for your new baby.
You will discuss any medical conditions you or your family may have, and any medications you may be taking. Diet and nutrition will be explained and optimal exercise plans considered. Good planning for great outcomes!
This simply means that you have nothing in your medical or family history that increases your chance of complications during this pregnancy. It also means that any previous pregnancies have been uncomplicated. You can have regular visits with Dr Macbeth and the midwife when they will examine you to make sure your baby is developing and growing as it should, and that you remain in good physical health. Dr Macbeth will plan with you, to achieve your personal birthing goals.
You will now need your obstetric care tailored to meet a specific need. Dr Macbeth will have identified something in your medical, family or previous obstetric history that puts you or your baby, at increased risk of complications in this pregnancy. The list of possible issues is long, but includes….
- Vaginal Birth after caesarean section (VBAC)
- Recurrent Miscarriages
- Multiple Pregnancies (Twins)
- Emotional trauma from a previous pregnancy experience
- Pre-existing medical conditions (such as thyroid conditions, diabetes.)
- Diabetes during pregnancy
- Auto-immune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis, crohns disease and other connective tissue disorders.
- Raised blood pressure, developing in pregnancy or those with a past history of raised blood pressure in pregnancy including pre-eclampsia.
- Poor previous obstetric history
- IVF Pregnancies.
- Previous miscarriages caused by chromosomal anomalies.
Dr Macbeth will confidently guide you through every step of this pregnancy, being sure to explain why he has concerns and what action can be taken to ensure the best outcome for you and your baby. Dr Macbeth works closely with a network of other specialist (such as endocrinologists, cardiologist, psychiatrists, etc.), all of whom he can personally recommend. When you need combined expertise for the highest quality care, it is immediately available,
Dr Macbeth can also perform your delivery at the Mater Private in South Brisbane, should your baby be likely to need the care of its excellent neonatal unit, or any neonatal surgery. Only by this limitless care can your understandable concerns be met.
‘Intermediate Care’ means you can have ‘private care’ without having private health insurance because your private doctor provides your care at the public hospital. This means your care is of the highest quality, much more personal and helps reduce the long waiting times that are seen on public hospital surgery waiting lists. Dr Macbeth’s intermediate surgeries are performed within 6 – 8 weeks. His public waiting list is 9-12 months. Most Gynaecology procedures are also very affordable as your Medicare rebates will apply, and the gap payments are kept to a minimum. Every procedure will be quoted in advance.
